The processes that make the natural world work derive from the properties of the atoms that all matter is composed of. In turn those properties are the result of the forces acting in and around sub-atomic particles within atoms. In this realm of the the incredibly small there are still mysteries for scientists to solve. Complex experiments and special equipment, like the 'Large Hadron Collider', are needed to split matter into its constituent parts.

My interest in this science has lead me to read about the subject, albeit at a very basic level. The esoteric and frankly baffling nature of matter at this level has inspired these paintings. In each artwork I have begun by devising a process of subdivision. Following the rules I've continued to add to the painting until I reach a point where it is either physically impossible for me to paint smaller or I feel I've gone far enough to make my point. I also don't know, when I begin, what the resulting painting will look like, its a painting game. One observation that comes from these works is that, the greater the number of subdivisions I produce the more homogenous the end result is. This reinforces my view that, great or small, everything and everyone is fundamentally equal. Another observation is, that in spite of the relative difference in scale between the Universe and the sub-atomic, they are dependant on the same forces... or force. Each painting has an animation on my YouTube channel. I hope these add to the appreciation of my work.
